On the top the latest infrared meteo images are the most frequently transmitted Meteosat views of Western Europe,
Atlantic Ocean, North Africa and Middle East via satellite.
This current meteo satellite imagery on line 24 / 24 h updated every 30 min. full disk is
directly coming from the satellite METEOSAT 9 now the prime satellite for European weather services and
nowcasting analysis.
Meteosat9 or MSG 2 (Meteosat Second Generation) carry a new radiometer instrument SEVIRI the Spinning Enhanced Visible and Infrared Imager.
The infrared channels are responsive to thermal radiation emitted by the surface of the land,
oceans and clouds and indicate their respective temperatures.
Meteosat 9 with Meteosat 8 satellites provide to send images services to network Eumetsat in realtime.

Meteosat 9 products have many meteorological and research applications.
With the channels monitoring ozone, water
vapour and carbon dioxide, this satellite allows meteorologists to analyse the
characteristics of atmospheric air masses in RGB composite , so it is possible to reconstruct a three-dimensional view of the atmosphere.
Meteosat-9 satellite also carry the Geostationary Earth Radiation Budget GERB , this instrument monitors the Earth's radiation budget with the wave radiation calculation in the atmosphere.
The GERB instrument has been measuring the difference between the radiation entering and radiation leaving the atmosphere.
The MSG satellites have provided experimental evidence for the greenhouse effect.
