It is dedicated to detailed cloud monitoring of the European and Northern African regions. Meteosat 9 was launched from Kourou on December 21, 2005 with an Ariane 5 Generic. The standard mode of operation of Meteosat 9 or MSG 2 is full disk imagery in 12 spectral channels every 15 min. High Resolution Visible (HRV) channels of Meteosat 9 provide measurements with a resolution of 1 km.
